Farewell Reception For Dr. Walt Griffin Planned As Part of "SaintsGiving" On Nov. 28

Alumni and friends of Limestone will have the opportunity to honor the legacy of retiring President Dr. Walt Griffin during the College’s “SaintsGiving” event on November 28.

As part of the national "Giving Tuesday" initiative, Limestone will host its fourth annual “SaintsGiving” as a way to celebrate generosity and to encourage giving.

The focus of this year’s “SaintsGiving” will again be the Limestone Fund, and gifts can be made in honor of Griffin, who is retiring at the end of December after 25 years of service to the College.

On the same day as “SaintsGiving,” a farewell reception will be held for Griffin on the ground floor of Winnie Davis Hall of History. The function will begin at 5 p.m., and Griffin will have closing remarks at 6:15 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Similar receptions have already been held at Limestone’s Online & Evening classroom sites in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and Florence. A farewell event is also scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30, in Aiken.

Alumni and friends of Limestone are encouraged to make tax-deductible “SaintsGiving” donations online at www.limestone.edu/giving, or drop by McMillan Hall on November 28 to make a gift in person between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Limestone Fund is the College’s unrestricted fund. It provides the necessary resources for merit and need based institutional scholarships, the acquisition of state-of-the art technological equipment, academic and extracurricular programs, and the ability to address other needs and opportunities as they arise. 

“What a wonderful way to support Limestone, while also celebrating the tremendous impact that Dr. Griffin has had on the College and the local community,” said Candace Waters, Limestone’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations. “We encourage alumni and friends of Limestone to use ‘SaintsGiving’ Tuesday to make a difference in the lives of our current and future students.”

“SaintsGiving” is being held in conjunction with the global “Giving Tuesday” movement that takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. “Giving Tuesday” has created a national day of giving to kick-off the giving season. It was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season.
