Dr. Shelly Meyers, Director of Teacher Education at Limestone College, was recently presented with the Exemplary Service to the Teaching Profession Award from the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators (SCATE).
Meyers received the award in October at the SCATE Annual Conference held at Coastal Carolina University in Conway.
Exemplary Service to the Teaching Profession Award is presented annually to an individual who has shown exceptional service to the education profession during the previous academic year.
According to SCATE, the award recipients have unique or extraordinary accomplishments in education; and/or active leadership in education at the local, state, and national level; and/or focused public attention on the need for improvement and better support of education. It is considered the most prestigious award given by the organization to a teacher educator.
“I’m humbled to be this year’s recipient,” said Meyers, who is also the Chair of Limestone’s Division of Education and Physical Education. “There are so many teacher educators who work tirelessly to elevate the teaching profession and fight for what is right for our teachers and k-12 students. This is truly an honor.”
SCATE is a state professional organization affiliated with the Association of Teacher Education (ATE). Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for individual professional growth for all persons concerned with teacher education and to promote high standards for the teaching profession through its policies and practices.
