Dr. Felicia Cavallini To Again Serve On Fulbright Peer Review Committee

For the third straight year, Limestone College Professor of Physical Education Dr. Felicia Cavallini will soon serve on the Fulbright U.S. Regional Peer Review Committee for Canada.

Three committee members will represent the entire United States in 2018-2019. The group will peer review the Fulbright applications from the United States before sending them to Canada. This will mark the final year of Cavallini’s three-year term on the respected committee.

Other committee members include Dr. Jay Liebowitz, Distinguished Chair of Applied Business, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (Harrisburg, PA); and Dr. Polly Newcomb, Professor, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle, WA).

“Despite the critical responsibility of this national committee and the time-consuming work required, I'm honored to be asked to serve for the third consecutive and final year,” Dr. Cavallini said. “Working together with the CEO of Fulbright Canada, members of the U.S. State Department, and Fulbright colleagues from across the country has been rewarding and priceless.”

The committee will meet on November 2-4 in Washington, DC, to discuss the numerous Fulbright applications the members are now reviewing.

Dr. Cavallini completed an 11-month Fulbright Scholar Student/Research Grant in Canada. From Aug. 30, 2014, through Aug. 1, 2015, she served at the University of Guelph as a Visiting Research Chair in the Human Health and Nutritional Sciences Department, and her primary focus was on physical activity and exercise.

The Fulbright Program awards approximately 8,000 grants annually. Roughly 1,600 U.S. students, 4,000 foreign students, 1,200 U.S. scholars, and 900 visiting scholars receive awards, in addition to several hundred teachers and professionals. Approximately 310,000 scholars have participated in the program since its inception in 1946.

The peer review process, a hallmark of the Fulbright Scholar program, ensures that applicants are evaluated on academic, scholarly and professional criteria.
