Limestone College’s Department of Music will embark on an eight-day choral concert tour of Germany in May of 2018, and there are still opportunities for friends of the College to travel along.
The tour is part of Limestone’s extensive program of celebrations over the next nine months to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.
The trip, being organized by Varna International, will take place May 13-20, 2018, with stops in Berlin, Wittenberg, Leipzig, Erfurt, Eisenach, and Dresden.
“The Limestone College & Community Chorus invites you to join us on this wonderful trip that will be full of music fulfillment, fun, and fellowship,” said Dr. Gena Poovey, Limestone’s Professor of Choral and Music Education. “Whether you wish to sing, or to simply sight-see and enjoy a taste of German culture, we welcome you to trace with us many of the steps of J.S. Bach and of Martin Luther. Enjoy the choral experience as we perform in Berlin, and in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. Soak in the history while visiting Wittenberg where the Reformation is said to have begun, Eisenach where Luther translated the Bible into German, the Bachhaus in Leipzig where Bach lived, and much, much more.”
Registration is open through mid-October.
The group will travel from Charlotte to Berlin to begin the tour.
The cost is $3,040 per participant, which includes airfare, six-nights lodging in three-star and four-star hotels, all breakfasts and one additional meal per day, ground transportation, a bi-lingual tour manager, and extensive touring and sightseeing of the cities, and all entrance fees.
Spaces are still available. For more information, email Dr. Gena Poovey at gpoovey@limestone.edu or Dr. David Thompson at dthompson@limestone.edu.
