FAFSA Delayed
Click the button below for more information about the changes coming for the 2024-2025 FAFSA.

The FAFSA for 2024-2025 is now open! The Department of Education has announced that FAFSA information will be made available to schools by the 1st half of March. Changes to the FAFSA (known as FAFSA Simplification) for the 2024-2025 year include expanded eligibility for federal student aid and a more streamlined application process.

Be Prepared:

If you will be completing the FAFSA for the first time, make sure to create your StudentAid.gov account. You will need your username and password to access the 2024-2025 FAFSA. Remember that if you are required to have a contributor, they will also need a username and password. “Contributor’ is a new term being introduced on the 2024-2025 FAFSA form. A contributor is anyone (you, your spouse, your biological or adoptive parent, or your parent’s spouse) who is required to provide information on the FAFSA form, sign the FAFSA form, and provide consent and approval to have their federal tax information transferred directly from the IRS into the form.

Other important FAFSA Simplification Facts:

  • There’s been a significant reduction in the number of questions contained in the form for a more streamlined application process.
  • New formulas will expand Pell Grant eligibility to more students (Undergraduate Students Only).
  • The 2024-2025 FAFSA will be role- based. Those required to submit information (student, and/or parent, and/or student spouse) will be called ‘Contributors’ and will provide their own financial and other information on the FAFSA. The contributor will only be able to see questions relating to their specific role and will also need their own FSA ID to log in.
  • Each Contributor will be required to grant consent (regardless of whether they file a US tax return) giving the IRS permission to transfer any data directly into the FAFSA form. All contributors providing any information on the form must grant permission or the student will not be eligible for any federal student aid
  • Everyone, whether or not they have a Social Security Number, will be required to have an FSA ID to complete the FAFSA.
  • The final figure calculated by the FAFSA is now called the Student Aid Index (SAI) instead of Expected Family Contribution (EFC) in order to more accurately describe how that number is used to determine financial aid eligibility.
