Goal post installation got underway at Saints Field on Friday, July 29, as Limestone University prepares to bring home football games to campus this fall. A crew from Geo Surfaces was busy installing the goal posts in what will be the end zones of Limestone's new football field. On Saturday, July 30, football striping and numbers were painted on the field.
Also on Friday, the Limestone maintenance department was relocating play clocks at Saints Field to better accommodate home football games.
For its first eight seasons, Limestone football called Gaffney High's "Reservation' stadium its home. It was announced in April of this year that the Saints' home games will move to campus beginning with the 2022 season. It was also announced at that time that the Limestone softball team's home games will return to campus for the 2023 season. The Saints last played softball on campus in 2014. For the past eight seasons, Limestone has played softball at Babe Ruth Field in Gaffney.
The Saints football team will get the 2022 season started with three consecutive road trips, including the Thursday, Sept. 1, opener at Gardner-Webb University. On Saturday, Sept. 24, Limestone opens its home slate on Saints Field at 7 p.m. in a homecoming contest against UVA-Wise.
Temporary seating will be added to Saints Field for the upcoming football season.
Limestone will be announcing home football ticket information as the season gets closer.
Saints Field will continue to also host Limestone's lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey games.
