The Saints keep marching for a possible spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
A week after debuting at No. 9 in the first poll of the season, Limestone University’s football team has moved up one position in the Super Region Two Rankings. The 28-team Division II postseason field will consist of the top seven squads in each of the four super regions. To earn a postseason bid, the Saints will need to jump at least one spot in the regional rankings prior to the playoff field being announced next week.
Limestone knocked off Barton 34-28 on Saturday, Nov. 5, to improve to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Saints are 7-2 against Division II opponents and teams from Super Region Two.
The regular season will come to an end on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 12 noon, as Limestone hosts Emory & Henry at Saints Field.
Benedict is the new No. 1 team in Super Region Two with an in-region record of 10-0. Delta State (7-1) falls to No.2, followed by West Florida (6-1), Virginia Union (8-1), and Wingate (8-2) rounding out the top five, respectively. The second half of the Top 10 includes, in order, Mars Hill (7-1), Fort Valley State (8-2), Limestone (7-2), Tuskegee (8-1), and West Georgia (7-2).
Including Wingate, Mars Hill, and Limestone, the South Atlantic Conference has three teams residing in the Top 10. Benedict and Limestone remain the lone squads from the state of South Carolina appearing in the regional rankings.
Shepherd, 10-0 in-region, is again ranked No. 1 in Super Region One. Grand Valley State (6-0) holds down the top spot once again in Super Region Three, and Angelo State (10-0) sits atop Super Region Four for a second straight week.
The first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs will get underway on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the site of the higher seed. The champions of the four super regions will square off in the semi-final round. The neutral site National Championship game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 12 noon, in McKinney, TX.
