Limestone University will induct five new members into its Athletics Hall of Fame during a special ceremony on Friday, Oct. 18, inside the Hines & Riggins Center.

The Class of 2024 includes former players Melissa DeVore (women’s basketball), Marquintus Jones (men’s basketball), Matt Malloy (men’s lacrosse), and Amy Yates (softball), along with special inductee Andy Solomon.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be streamed live on the Saints Sports Network and FloSports.

The five new inductees will also be introduced during halftime of the Limestone football game on Saturday, Oct. 19, as the Saints host Wingate for a 12 p.m. kickoff.

“We are extremely excited about this year’s Hall of Fame class,” said Hailey Martin, Limestone’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. “Each one is extremely deserving of this honor. We cannot wait to celebrate with them, their families, and their friends. It is going to be special evening at Limestone.”

Below are details on each inductee, along with their respective impacts on Saints Athletics.

Melissa DeVore – Women’s Basketball (Class of 2006)

After transferring from Danville Area Community College, DeVore helped to quickly turn around the Saints women’s basketball program with her ability to facilitate a run-and-gun offense. A second team All-Conference Carolinas selection during her senior campaign, DeVore dished out a team-high 170 assists, ranking second in program history in assists for a single season.

A prolific scorer for Limestone, DeVore totaled a team-leading 459 points and 47 steals while starting all 29 games during the 2005-2006 season. She was also able to record a pair of triple-doubles in that same year, scoring 10 points or more in 24 of her 29 appearances. Her 83 percent shooting from the charity stripe lands her seventh in team history.

Marquintus Jones – Men’s Basketball (Class of 2006)

A four-year member of the Saints basketball program, Jones became a staple of consistency early in his career at the Rock, bringing a level of intensity and focus that was unmatched. He surpassed the 1,000-point mark during his senior campaign, while finishing his career with 1,255 points, second in the history books at the end of his career.

In his final season with the Saints, Jones led the team in scoring with 372 points and was second with 88 assists, earning Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) Player of the Week honors and postseason All-CVAC recognition. Jones was the recipient of the Tom Pettit Sportsmanship Award at the conclusion of the 2005-2006 season.

Over the course of his career, Jones averaged 11.7 points per game. He led the Saints to back-to-back winning seasons from 2004-2006.

Matt Malloy – Men’s Lacrosse (Class of 2003)

Named a three-time All-American (Honorable Mention his sophomore season and All-American during his junior and senior seasons), Malloy helped guide the Saints to their first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship in 2000 as a freshman. During his rookie campaign, he won all 13 of his starts and collected 10 saves from his goaltender position in the national championship game that saw the Saints defeat perennial power C.W. Post 10-9.

Malloy played in all 16 games as a sophomore, including 15 starts. He was named an Honorable Mention, First Team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference selection, boasting a save percentage of .668.

After the Saints finished as the NCAA Division II runners-up in 2001, Malloy was selected to serve as team captain while guiding his team back to the pinnacle of Division II men’s lacrosse in the 2002 season, capturing the team’s second national championship in three seasons with an 11-9 victory over New York Institute of Technology. He was named Second Team All-American and First Team All-Conference at the conclusion of his final season. In 2003, he was named Deep South Player of the Year.

In his four years at Limestone, Malloy garnered an overall record of 53-10 and a perfect 24-0 in conference play.

Amy Yates – Softball (Class of 2006)

One of the best offensive players to ever come through the Limestone softball program, Yates was a four-time All-Conference Carolinas selection, including first team honors three of her four years with the Saints.

Yates led the team to four 20-win seasons, while finishing in the top five of the conference each season during her four-year tenure. Limestone combined for a 50-29 record in league play during that span.

She finished with a .369 career batting average to go along with 251 hits, including 59 doubles, 24 triples, and 23 home runs. Yates carries an all-time .412 on-base percentage and .627 slugging percentage. The picture of longevity, Yates sits inside the Top 10 with 211 career games played.

Andy Solomon – Special Inductee

A veteran of over 40 years in the fields of intercollegiate athletics administration, media relations, and marketing, Solomon served as Limestone’s Director of Communications from 1984 through 1988 and built its Sports Information Department into one of the most efficient and effective in the nation. Throughout his storied career, he has continuously brought awareness to Limestone and Saints Athletics.

While at Limestone, Solomon integrated the communications office that directed and managed the institution’s public and media relations, sports information, promotions, advertising, publications, and also assisted with fund-raising efforts. He was also an instructor of Journalism and coached the nationally ranked Saints golf team.

During Solomon’s tenure, Limestone hired former Major League Baseball great Gaylord Perry to start the Saints baseball program. Solomon was instrumental in the local, regional, and nation-wide positive exposure that Limestone received while Perry served as Limestone’s inaugural baseball coach. Solomon is currently the Executive Director of the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame, which selected Perry for induction in 2020.

Following his stint at Limestone, Solomon moved on to The Citadel, where he served in various roles, including Development Officer for Athletics, Associate Athletics Director/Communications, and adjunct professor.

Serving as the Eagles’ Sports Information Director from 1978-1984, Solomon was inducted into the Winthrop University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. He has been named the NCAA’s “Sports Marketer of the Year” and the NAIA’s “Sports Information Director of the Year.” He is also the author of two books, “From the Pages of The Blue & White: My First 25 Years of Citadel Athletics” and “The First 100,000 Games Were Fun But the People I Met Along the Way Were Funner.”
