Business Administration - Finance |
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) |
Warren Buffett, one of the most successful investors in the world, commented after the financial crisis of 2009, “It’s been an ideal period for investors: A climate of fear is their best friend. Those who only when commentators are upbeat end up paying a heavy price for meaningless reassurance.” Here he suggests that students should not only learn about a firm’s value and price in the market but also need to develop the right temperament and patience for investing in the market.
Through the Finance Concentration, students acquire knowledge about how firms make financial decisions and how these decisions affect the individual organizations, its stakeholders’ interests, its market value, and the economy at large. Specific topics include how firms acquire and allocate funds, how financial markets operate, and international financial management techniques. Our study of finance then pushes students further by focusing on experiential learning assignments such as: creating models to develop analytical approaches to problems; researching securities to trade in simulations; and analyzing decision-based case studies. Classes occur in a small setting allowing maximum individualized attention.
The Business Administration – Finance degree program is available online. Online programs have the same content and curriculum as traditional on-campus programs. All coursework, including lectures, assignments, and exams, is available through the Canvas online learning system.
Online programs are asynchronous, which means there are no specific times you must be online. Professors and other instructors are available during virtual “office hours” for discussion. The programs are designed to allow you to focus on two courses in eight-week terms.
As an online student, you may be eligible to transfer credits from other accredited colleges. Learn more about our online program admission requirements.
With your concentration in Finance, our curriculum prepares students to work in financial institutions such as commercial banks and investment banks, or in finance departments of major corporations. Additionally, students may go on to careers in consulting firms, wealth management, insurance, real estate, and consumer finance.
